Sanku Partner Millers Recognized at Kenya Micronutrient Fortification Index (KMFI) Awards
Several millers supported by Sanku were recognized at the Kenya Micronutrient Fortification Awards 2025, a national forum that honors excellence and leadership in food fortification across Kenya’s milling sector. The awards recognize millers that demonstrate consistent compliance with fortification standards, innovation in production processes, and contribution to national nutrition goals.
At the ceremony, Unga Group PLC Limited and Kitui Flour Mills ranked among the top three millers nationally. Kitui Flour Mills also received additional recognition, winning both the Innovation Award and the Most Improved Company Award, reflecting sustained investment in fortification quality, operational improvements, and compliance over time.
Other Sanku partner mills recognized during the event included Buffalo Millers, Kensalrise Limited, and Ustawi Grain Millers Limited. These millers were acknowledged for their role in strengthening Kenya’s food systems by producing fortified staple foods that meet national standards and reach communities at scale.
The awards ceremony was presided over by H.E. Dr. Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary of Kenya, and brought together representatives from government ministries, regulatory agencies, development partners, and the private sector. The event highlighted the critical role of millers in implementing Kenya’s mandatory food fortification policies and translating regulation into tangible public health outcomes.
Sanku works with more than 1,500 partner mills across Eastern Africa, supporting them with fortification technology, technical assistance, and quality assurance systems. In Kenya, these partnerships contribute to the delivery of fortified flour to millions of households each day, helping to reduce micronutrient deficiencies linked to anemia, impaired child development, and other nutrition-related health challenges.
The recognition of Sanku-supported millers at the national level underscores the importance of collaboration between government, industry, and technical partners in advancing food fortification. It also reflects growing momentum within Kenya’s milling sector to raise standards, strengthen compliance, and ensure that fortified foods consistently reach consumers.
