Food Fortification Gains Momentum at the 79th World Health Assembly
Food fortification emerged as a key priority at the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva, reflecting growing global recognition of its role as a cornerstone of public health.
Building on the landmark 2023 World Health Assembly resolution supporting large-scale food fortification, governments, development partners, and nutrition leaders reaffirmed the importance of fortification in addressing hidden hunger, which continues to affect more than one billion women and hundreds of millions of children worldwide.
For Sanku, this momentum reinforces the work we do every day across East Africa, supporting millers to fortify staple foods at scale so millions of families can access better nutrition through the foods they already eat.
We are encouraged to see continued leadership from governments and partners, including GAIN, Helen Keller Intl, UNICEF, the World Food Programme, the World Health Organization, Nutrition International, and the Food Fortification Initiative, advancing this critical global agenda.
