Sanku Expands Fortification Work in Rwanda Through FWGA Partnership

Sanku has expanded its food fortification work in Rwanda through a strategic partnership with the Fortified Whole Grain Alliance (FWGA), strengthening access to essential micronutrients through locally produced staple foods. The collaboration focuses on improving the availability and distribution of high-quality nutrient premix to support millers and food producers serving vulnerable populations.

Through this partnership, FWGA has connected Sanku with key partners in Rwanda, facilitating new distribution channels and strengthening coordination across the food fortification value chain. To date, the collaboration has enabled the delivery of nutrient premix sufficient to fortify foods consumed daily by more than 300,000 people.

The partnership addresses a critical gap in fortification systems by ensuring that millers have reliable access to affordable, high-quality premix. Each kilogram of premix enables the delivery of essential micronutrients, including iron and folic acid, which are vital for preventing anemia, supporting maternal health, and reducing the risk of nutrition-related birth defects.

Beyond supply, the collaboration emphasizes systems strengthening. Sanku and FWGA are working with local stakeholders to align fortification practices with national standards and to support consistent quality assurance across production sites. These efforts contribute to building resilient food systems capable of delivering sustained nutrition impact.

The Rwanda collaboration demonstrates the value of cross-organizational partnerships in accelerating fortification at scale. By combining technical expertise, regional networks, and shared commitment, Sanku and FWGA are laying the foundation for long-term nutrition improvements and future expansion within Rwanda and across the region.
