Sanku Partners with TenX Nutrition to Help Turn a Kenyan Favorite into a Tool Against Hidden Hunger

Few foods are more loved in Kenya than the mandazi. Found in school bags, roadside kiosks, and breakfast tables across the country, it is a familiar favorite enjoyed by millions of children every day.

Through a new partnership with TenX Nutrition, Sanku is exploring how this everyday staple can also help tackle hidden hunger. Founded in 2023, TenX produces fortified mandazis that reach thousands of children daily, primarily in low-income communities in Nairobi. Each mandazi provides approximately 25% of a child’s daily requirement of iron, zinc, folate, and vitamin A, alongside nutritious ingredients such as sweet potato, millet, and soybean.

The partnership reflects a simple but powerful idea: the most effective way to improve nutrition is not to change what people eat, but to make the foods they already enjoy more nutritious. By fortifying familiar foods with essential vitamins and minerals, we can improve health without asking families to change habits or spend more money.

Better nutrition also means better learning. Iron deficiency has been linked to poorer cognitive development, reduced attention, and lower academic performance. Helping children access essential nutrients supports healthier development today and stronger communities tomorrow.

For years, Sanku has delivered life-changing nutrients through fortified flour. With TenX Nutrition, we are expanding that vision by exploring new pathways to reach children through foods they already know and love.

It is through partnerships like these that Sanku continues to scale its impact across Eastern Africa, proving that every meal can be an opportunity to fight hidden hunger.
